This website On retrobook.com you find book covers designed by Dick Bruna in the Black Bear series published by Bruna & Son in Utrecht from 1957-1970. There are many admirers of book cover design of Dick Bruna. For collectors not living in Holland it is difficult to buy these used books. That is why this website, owned by a collector in Holland, offers original used books.

Dick Bruna Dick Bruna (1927) is a graphical designer, living in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Well known for his Miffy children books, he designed from 1957 till 1970 famous book covers in the "Black Bears" book series of publishing house Bruna & Son, one of the first mass paperback series in the Netherlands.

Why are Black Bear books interesting? Dick Bruna experimented with collage and montage and was influenced by Matisse, Leger and Mondrian in the development of his unique style. These clear designed covers and their mascots became trade-marks of the publishing company in such a iconical way that they needed no words to convey messages intended for publicity.

How do I order? Option 1. On the website you will find used books that are in stock. For ordering use the mailform on the contact-page or e-mail to info@retrobook.com  Option 2. What are the costs of ordering? For international orders a black bear book costs Euro 5 (USD 7,50 JPY 835). A search order is free. Standard mailing costs are for the buyer. Exceptions (scarce books) costs Euro 7,50 and are noted with (**) after the order number in the list of books. If you only want bookcovers (Galleries) one bookcover costs Euro 4,50 (USD 7 JPY 750) (** exceptions Euro 7). For international payment we prefer PayPal.
